Scale Calibration
Clients should schedule calibrations at regular intervals to counteract drift and the wear and tear caused by normal operation. Many manufacturers recommend annual calibrations for users to verify equipment function. Following a periodic calibration schedule can help clients avoid recalls, quality changes, reputation loss, and potential legal ramifications associated with inaccurate measurements.
ATS can also provide more frequent calibrations for clients whose scales must deliver precise measurements or after the following:
- Operation in a harsh environment (vibrations, dust, moisture, heat, and humidity)
- Transport to a new location
- An incident that may result in physical damage
Our Calibration Lab Environment
ATS maintains ISO/IEC 17025 calibration accreditation for field and lab services. Once a device arrives in our lab, it spends at least 24 hours acclimating to the stable environment. To minimize the potential for error, we regulate the lab’s temperatures to +/- 2 degrees of 68 ˚F and relative humidity between 30 and 55% RH. Additionally, the isolation joints along our laboratory floor help absorb vibrations produced during normal operations.

Our Scale Calibration Procedure
Inspection
When a WeighMax device arrives in our lab, ATS experts first inspect the device for signs of damage. The scale’s accuracy can significantly degrade if damaged by corrosion, electrical shock, or mechanical shock. If our experts uncover damage to the scale, they consult with the client about any necessary repairs before calibrations can continue.
Calibration
ATS calibrates for accuracy, repeatability, and eccentric load with ASTM Class 1 and ASTM Class F weights. Our certified calibration range of 1 milligram (mg) to 1,200 pounds (lbs) covers the capabilities of most WeighMax products. If a scale returns measurements outside the customer or manufacturer’s tolerances, an ATS expert can adjust the device for NIST traceability. We tailor our procedures to comply with client-specified parameters and industrial standards, such as ASTM.
Reports
We compile our observations and WeighMax scale calibration data in a certificate of calibration available on iPortal, our secure web platform. iPortal gives clients 24/7 access to past calibration documents and current equipment statuses.
