RTCA DO-160 6.0 Humidity Testing Lab

Humidity Testing

Humidity testing in accordance with RTCA DO-160 Section 6.0 verifies the ability of aircraft equipment and components to withstand humid atmospheres. This type of humidity testing focuses on aircraft’s ability to resist corrosion and component damage or failure as a result of humid conditions. These components typically include electrical parts and devices, mechanical components, chemical elements, and thermal insulators. Equipment categories include standard humidity environments, severe humidity environments, and external humidity environments.

Standard Humidity Environments: This category applies to equipment located in interior aircraft compartments where humidity is controlled.

Severe Humidity Environments: Severe humidity environments include areas where environmental conditions are not usually controlled, where equipment may be exposed to high levels of atmospheric humidity for extended durations.

External Humidity Environments: This category applies to equipment that is exposed to and comes into direct contact with outside air for extended durations.

RTCA DO-160
ATS performs Section 6.0 Humidity testing according to the conditions for aircraft equipment and machinery standard set by the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics. This RTCA testing standard pertains to aircraft including commercial airliners, general aviation aircraft, helicopters, and several other types of aircraft. Environmental standards set by the RTCA must be followed by all aircraft and aircraft component manufacturers.
