Technician Performing Hydro Testing

Pipeline Hydrostatic Testing

Applied Technical Services performs pipeline hydrostatic testing to assess the integrity of pipelines and piping systems.
Hydrostatic Testing
Hydrostatic testing, also known as hydro testing, is used to verify a piping system’s ability to hold liquid. Hydro testing consists of a pressure system being filled to its maximum capacity, followed by our certified technicians performing a visual inspection of the subject. This allows the identification of any potential leaks or flaws in the pipeline system, helping to avoid a potential rupture. This nondestructive testing method requires that the pipeline be out of service for the duration of testing.
Common Applications
Industry Standards
Pipeline hydrostatic testing standards are set by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Hydro testing is typically required every three to five years, depending on the type of piping system and its purpose.
