Importance of Ultrasonic Pipe Testing

Ultrasonic pipe testing is effective for detecting flaws in piping welds used in many different industries including oil and gas, power generation, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals. ATS’ NDT technicians use this method to find a variety of defects including cracks, corrosion, lack of fusion, lack of penetration, inclusions, and other similar defects that can affect structural integrity. Test results are dependent on the flaw type, size and material being analyzed; however, it is a method that is distinctly repeatable and reliable. In addition, ultrasonic testing is a portable test that allows for inspecting irregular and large parts, structures and/or components.
