Fitness for Service

ffs testing to determine the integrity of industrial equipment
ATS Inspection Services

Applied Technical Services (ATS) offers Fitness-for-Service Assessments for clients seeking to determine the safety and integrity of their industrial equipment as well as assistance in determining any necessary corrective actions. Fitness-for-Service (FFS) is a recommended practice to assess, evaluate, and monitor applicable industrial equipment (such as tanks or pressure vessels) for the purpose of making run-repair-replace decisions. As several factors affect the aging of industrial equipment, our engineers conduct Fitness-for-Service evaluations to assess a variety of potential flaws such as general corrosion, dents or gouges, brittle fractures, and fatigue of welded joints, among other issues. ATS performs our Fitness-for-Service techniques in accordance with the industry recognized standard API 579-1/ASME FFS-1. This standard describes the necessary procedures for performing thorough evaluations of applicable equipment when they fall outside the general assessment scopes of the primary inspection codes and standards API 510, 653, and 570.

Testing Capability

As recommended by API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, ATS has a multidisciplinary team across multiple departments that conduct Fitness-for-Service evaluations in our nondestructive and mechanical, metallurgical and chemical analysis labs. Our skilled inspectors follow API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 guidelines to provide comprehensive evaluations of the subject. We perform our Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods in accordance with standard ASNT SNT-TC-1A:
