ASTM Elastomeric Flexible Hinge Finger Total Joint Implants Testing
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) conducts fatigue testing of finger joint implants in accordance with the ASTM F1781 elastomeric flexible hinge finger total joint implants testing standard. During finger joint replacement surgery, medical professionals replace a damaged joint with an artificial, metal, or plastic joint. Finger joint implants undergo extensive evaluations before clinical use to ensure their effectiveness. Our medical device testing labs help ensure that our client’s finger joint implants adhere to regulatory requirements and perform as expected.
ASTM F1781 Elastomeric Flexible Hinge Finger Total Joint Implants Testing
The American Society for Testing and Materials established ASTM F1781 as the international standard for determining the flexibility of finger total joint implants. ASTM F1781 covers the reconstruction of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints, including those with and without metal. Technicians evaluate the implant’s maximum extension and flexion to determine the device’s mobility and overall ability to mimic the natural motions of the PIP and MCP joints. The standard provides guidelines for the following:
- Biocompatibility
- Durometer
- Fatigue Testing
- Range of Motion
- Surface Finishes
- In Vitro Lab Testing
More About Our Medical Device Testing Lab
Medical devices are materials, instruments, and implants used to prevent, treat, and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses. Manufacturers must adhere to ASTM and FDA regulations and standards such as ASTM F1781before their products become eligible for clinical use. Our A2LA-accredited medical device testing facilities help clients comply with mandatory product quality and performance guidelines. We also offer customized testing services where our experts work closely with clients to develop procedures that address their unique needs and concerns. We provide various types of dental, extremity, joint, and spinal implant testing, including:
- Compression Testing
- Dedicated Testing
- Fatigue Testing
- Life Cycle Testing
- Shear Testing
- Tensile Testing
