PFOA Testing

PFOA Testing

Applied Technical Services performs PFOA testing to determine the PFOA content of client sample materials.
Usage and Dangers of PFOA
PFOA, also referred to as perfluorooctanoic acid, is a very specific type of compound that belongs to the perfluorochemical family. PFOA is one of the many members of this group that have been used in heat, stain and water resistant products all over the world for over four decades. Unfortunately, they also represent a very serious environmental concern that you need to be aware of.
After a series of studies and tests conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2002, it was determined that PFOA and related compounds caused a number of developmental and other adverse effects in animals used for testing. As a result, the EPA has made a number of efforts in the intervening years to attempt to control PFOA in the environment.
What Is PFOA Testing?

Because of this environmental concern, proper PFOA testing is of paramount importance. Soil and other products are analyzed using state-of-the-art technology to identify the level of PFOA and other PFC family members that may be present, which is measured in “parts per billion” or “parts per trillion”. PFOA can then either be filtered out of soil, or other products can be altered by their manufacturers in such a way as to take the PFOA associated risks out of the equation.

ATS' Organic Compound Testing Services

At Applied Technical Services, we’re proud to offer a wide range of different PFOA testing services to clients all over the world on a regular basis. Highly trained and passionate team members, many of whom hold multiple accreditations and certifications, use a analytical technique called LC/MS/MS to both detect and quantify PFOA, and the related PFC components that may be present in materials and products. After this actionable data has been provided, our clients can then determine the best course of action to take to help mitigate the risk and handle the situation to its satisfying conclusion.

If your company needs to determine the PFOA content of a sample material, contact ATS today about our reliable PFOA testing services — We take a closer look!
