Applied Technical Services (ATS) conducts dust ingress testing in accordance with IEC Standard 60529.
What is Dust Ingress Testing?
Dust ingress testing evaluates a product’s resistance to dust penetration. Many electronics and machinery are sensitive to dust, so these tests help manufacturers assess product performance in environments with fine particles such as sand, dirt, and dust. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) created IEC 60529 to define ingress protection (IP) ratings for commercial and consumer products.
What is IEC Standard 60529?
IEC 60529 is an international standard that defines Ingress Protection (IP) ratings, classifying the level of protection electrical enclosures provide against dust and water. It consolidates previous requirements into a single framework, specifying test methods, acceptance criteria, and two-digit IP ratings. The first digit, from 0 to 6, measures protection against solids, with 0 meaning no protection and 6 meaning complete protection. The second digit, from 0 to 9, measures resistance to liquids, with 0 indicating no protection and 9 indicating protection against high-temperature, powerful water jets.
About Our Dust Ingress Testing Services
Our laboratory delivers precise dust ingress testing to help manufacturers verify enclosure integrity and determine the correct IP rating for their devices. We use rigorous methods, advanced equipment, and a commitment to customer service to support reliable product qualification. By assessing resistance to particulate intrusion under controlled conditions, we help clients confirm product suitability for demanding applications. IP ratings are essential for products in defense, industrial, consumer, and outdoor sectors. Our clear reports and technical guidance provide manufacturers with the data needed to optimize designs, meet regulatory requirements, and ensure reliable performance in real-world conditions.
About Us
Founded in 1967, ATS began as an Atlanta-based engineering firm and, over the decades, has expanded into a national network of consultants and experts across various industries and disciplines. Our state-of-the-art ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accredited lab helps clients navigate the regulatory landscape, optimize their product’s design, strengthen their operations, and gain critical insights into their operations and products.
