Full-Scale Corrosion Testing

ATS conducts full-scale corrosion testing of complete assets in our large-capacity walk-in chamber, delivering data clients can trust.

Applied Technical Services (ATS) provides full-scale corrosion testing to help manufacturers understand how industrial assets, critical structures, and complete systems will perform under real-world environmental conditions before deployment or distribution.

At our ATS Marietta location, our large-capacity chamber can apply multi-stressor environmental testing to full-scale assets and assemblies. Unlike traditional methods that require components to be separated, tested in multiple chambers, or modified to fit our standard equipment, our full-scale chamber accommodates entire systems in a single environment. Our goal is to build client confidence before their assets enter service, reducing the risk of failures, safety hazards, and costly repairs or recalls down the line.

Inside Our Walk-In Corrosion Chamber

With internal dimensions of 3.0m x 4.4m x 3.5m (W x D x H), our advanced walk-in corrosion chamber can simultaneously support a wide range of environmental testing methods, including:

  • Standard Salt Fog Testing (DIN EN ISO 9227, ASTM B117, JIS Z2371, ISO 50014)
  • High Temperature Testing (+80°C)
  • Cold Temperature Testing (-40°C)
  • Humidity Testing (100% RH)
  • Condensation Testing (DIN EN ISO 6370-2)
  • Cyclic Corrosion Testing

We can test any metal assets exposed to environmental corrosion that require full-unit testing, but components taller than 96 inches must be assembled inside the chamber.

How Does Full-Scale Corrosion Testing Compare to Standard Sample Testing?

Testing the complete asset rather than material samples alone provides comprehensive data on long-term service life, delivering a more realistic assessment of product durability in complex environmental conditions.

Sample Testing: Determines how the material behaves.

Full-Scale Corrosion Testing: Determines how the actual product behaves as a whole.

For example, testing a full vehicle body instead of a part or coupon sample evaluates corrosion performance across the entire assembly, including seams, welds, coatings, and fasteners.

What Types of Assets Commonly Undergo Full-Scale Corrosion Testing?

Full-scale corrosion testing is most commonly used for high-value, mission-ready, or safety-critical assets where corrosion failures have serious operational consequences. The spacious design of our large-assembly testing chamber has the ability to accommodate:

  • Aerospace Components
  • Structural, Aircraft, and Automotive Assemblies
  • Entire Vehicle Bodies, Golf Carts, Off-Road and Utility Vehicles
  • Infrastructure Assets (Bridge Components, Transportation Equipment, Utility Structures)
  • Power Generation Equipment
  • Industrial Processing Equipment
  • Agricultural Equipment
  • Pipeline Sections
  • Oil and Gas Equipment (Pressure Vessels, Tanks, Valves)

Local Expertise, Specialized Equipment

Supported by advanced equipment and an experienced team of engineers, technicians, and experts, ATS has provided reliable testing solutions for nearly 60 years. Our environmental labs conduct accelerated, controlled evaluations to help clients identify issues early. Using specialized equipment and a full-scale testing chamber, we deliver integrated thermal, condensation, and corrosion testing for the automotive, manufacturing, defense, aerospace, and power generation industries.

Our growing network of testing labs holds multiple ISO/IEC 17025:2017-accreditations and is backed by an ISO 9001:2015-registered system. Since joining SGS in 2026, the world’s leading provider of TICC services, the local support ATS is known for is now supported by global resources. Together, we combine our technical expertise and testing capabilities to further our mission of creating a safer, more reliable world.
