NFPA 260

The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (ATS FoC) tests the fire resistance of upholstered furniture using NFPA 260.

The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (ATS FoC) tests the ignition resistance of upholstered furniture in accordance with NFPA 260 to help clients select compliant materials, reduce fire risk, and improve product and consumer safety.

What Does NFPA 260 Apply to?

NFPA 260 outlines a standard method for determining and classifying the ignition resistance of upholstered furniture components when exposed to cigarette ignition sources. It specifically applies to the fabrics, welt cords, barrier materials, decking materials, padding, and filling present in the furniture assembly. In addition to ensuring product safety, companies also use NFPA 260 to inform material selection and design.

Why is Flammability Testing Important for Furniture Safety?

Several factors affect furniture flammability, such as coatings, fabric composition, product design, and materials. If any component is flammable, the furniture may become a fuel source. Flammability testing provides insight into the product’s fire resistance, guide material selection and design, and helps ensure compliance.

Furniture Testing that Facilitates Product Compliance

The ATS FoC offers a comprehensive range of services to help you assess the safety and reliability of your furniture products. Our experts perform flammability testing using multiple methods, including:
