Applied Technical Services conducts mechanical shock testing to analyze a product’s resistance to various types of impact and vibration.
Professional Mechanical Shock Testing with ATS
Mechanical shock testing consists of accelerating a subject along a single axis, typically either with or against gravity, to apply a strong mechanical shock. The subject is monitored to analyze its structure’s resistance to weakening or failure as well as to determine component resistance to loosening or other nonconformance to design specifications.
Shock Testing Methods
ATS provides different types of shock testing, including but not limited to:
- Functional Shock (MIL-STD 810, RTCA DO 160)
- Crash Hazard Shock
- Bench Handling
- Pendulum Impact
- Material-to-be-Packaged
- Transit Drop
- Fragility
Potential Outcomes
This type of testing allows ATS to identify several flaws, including but not limited to:
- Friction Between Parts
- Mechanical Failures
- Structural Failures
- Material Failures (cracks, warping, breakage, etc.)
- Connection Failures
- Failure in Electronic Circuit Cards
- Variations in Magnetic Field
- Variations in Electrostatic Field
- Loss of Insulation Resistance
- Change in Dielectric Strength
