Testing for 22 Restricted AZO Dyes

The EU Directive 2002/61/EC currently lists 22 AZO Dyes that are restricted and have been since September 2003. Azo Dyes are synthetic dyes used to give colors a more vibrant appearance. However, some dyes are comprised of aromatic amines which have proven to be carcinogenic. The full list of restricted AZO Dyes is listed below. The requirement for the listed AZO Dyes applies to textiles and leather that come in prolonged contact with the skin. The limit for each amine is 30 parts per million (ppm). Please feel free to contact ATS for additional information.
