Asbestos Testing Lab

The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies’ asbestos testing lab analyzes asbestos-related materials.
Asbestos
Asbestos is a group of minerals containing long, separable fibers. Asbestos fibers are heat resistant and strong enough to be spun and woven, making them valuable to various industries. These fibers are in over 3,000 products, including brake pads, cement pipes, and roofing materials.
Health Effects
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classify asbestos as a carcinogen, or a substance that causes cancer. There is significant evidence that asbestos can cause mesothelioma (a relatively rare type of cancer) and cancer of the ovaries, larynx, and lungs.
Inhaling asbestos fibers for prolonged periods causes other adverse health effects, such as:
  • Pleuritis
  • Pleural Plaques
  • COPD
  • Asbestosis
  • Pleural Effusions
  • Diffuse Pleural Thickening
The Importance of Asbestos Testing
Asbestos is in materials of older buildings, such as asbestos shingles, floor tiles, furnace and pipe insulation, millboards, textured paints, and other coating materials. Disturbing asbestos materials through deconstruction or reconstruction can produce elevated levels of airborne asbestos. The improper removal of these materials releases asbestos fibers into buildings, which increases asbestos concentrations and endangers occupants.
ATS' Asbestos Testing Services
ATS inspectors examine the area containing asbestos to conduct a visual test. We perform bulk sample testing by removing small pieces of material and returning them to our lab for further testing and analysis.

ATS’ asbestos testing lab offers asbestos testing services to ensure the safety of occupants inside a building, prevent contamination of the outside air, and avoid legal issues. We provide detailed reports on the location of asbestos and the type of materials involved.
