EDR Event Data Recorder Analyst
Applied Technical Services’ EDR event data recorder analyst evaluates data from vehicles involved in collisions. While unfortunate, vehicle collisions are unavoidable and daily occurrences on roadways worldwide, so it’s important to investigate and analyze accidents to improve driver safety and establish facts about the causes of collisions.
What is an Event Data Recorder?
An event data recorder documents data before, during, and after significant events involving motor vehicles. For example, the device will collect the data from a car involved in a wreck to aid investigators in their efforts to reconstruct the accident. An EDR often consists of a series of sensors throughout the vehicle that monitors various functions of the car, including:
- Changes in Speed before Collision
- Braking
- Engine Throttle
- Seat Belt Status
- Air Bag Status
- Number of Crash Events
- Time Elapsed between Crash Events
- Vehicle Roll Angle
- Steering Input
- Driver & Passenger Seat Position

Event data recorders are tamper-proof, so data extraction is a complicated process that requires the enlistment of crash data retrieval software. Once downloaded, experts evaluate the information and other relevant evidence, such as photographs, witness statements, and police reports to reconstruct the accident as accurately as possible.
