Pipe Testing

pipeline weld inspections

One of ATS’ most requested services is pipe testing and inspections. With such a variety of tests that can be performed on pipes we offer numerous applications including nondestructive testing, mechanical testing, environmental testing, failure analysis and weld certification. Since our founding in 1967, we have earned an excellent reputation nationally and internationally with clientele from multiple industries.

Industries Served:

  • Chemical
  • Commercial
  • Construction
  • Energy
  • Industrial
  • Manufacturing
  • Military
  • Nuclear
  • Oil/Gas
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Power Generation
  • Pulp and Paper

Nondestructive Testing (NDT)

NDT inspections are commonly requested by industries whose pipes and pipelines are still in service. These evaluations give owners/operators peace of mind when their components and systems are determined to be safe and structurally sound for continued use. However, NDT inspections may reveal safety hazards due to assets being compromised by fatigue, corrosion, improper materials, poor manufacturing processes, and/or weldment issues.

NDT Service:

  • Traditional Radiography/X-ray
  • Computed Digital Radiography
  • Ultrasonic
  • Ultrasonic Thickness
  • Magnetic Particle
  • Liquid Penetrant
  • Eddy Current

Mechanical and Environmental Testing

Mechanical testing on pipes will help you determine mechanical property strength and material behavior when exposed to external forces, pressures, and environmental conditions. Being aware of your systems’ limitations will provide safety, dependable equipment, and avoid unexpected down time.

Pipe Weld Testing

Poor welding techniques can present risks and vulnerabilities in pipes. Many industries require welds to be inspected to ensure safety and reliability for industrial piping systems. Our experienced CWI and NDT Experts travel nationwide to perform weld inspections in accordance to your industry standards.

  • VT – Visual
  • RT – Radiographic
  • MT – Magnetic Particle
  • UT – Ultrasonic
  • PT – Liquid Penetrant

Pipe Weld Procedures and Welder Certification

At ATS we process welding coupons, in the form of pipes and plates for companies who are getting their welding procedures qualified and welders certified. Coupon welding tests are perfect for pre-employment screening, ensuring welders can meet the requirements of specific codes/standards and for proper documentation or proof of a welder’s competency and/or performance.

Pipe Failure Analysis

ATS offers in-depth assessments to assist in identifying a wide variety of pipe failures. These forensic and failure analyses can be performed on steel, PVE, copper, ABS, CPVC, HDPE, polyethylene, cast iron and kitec pipes.

  • PMI – Positive Material Identification
  • Chemical Analysis
  • Metallurgical Analysis
  • Engineering Analysis
