The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies provides ASTM D999 Testing to help clients verify compliance with shipping container vibration tolerance.

ASTM D999 Testing Standard

ASTM D999 is a standardized testing method established by the American Society for Testing and Material for vibration testing shipping containers. Shipping containers are subjected to various forces that can lead to packaging failure and product damage while in transit. ASTM D999 testing exposes packaging containers to different types of vibrations to simulate transportation environments, allowing our vibration testing experts to assess packaging resilience and determine its ability to withstand forces of varying severity.

This test method subjects the packaging to controlled vibrations using vibration tables in our state-of-the-art shock and vibration laboratory. Vibration tables are designed to replicate the types of vibrations a test sample will experience during its standard operating environment. For shipping container testing, this includes different modes of transport, including trucks, trains, ships, and airplanes. The ASTM D999 standard specifies different procedures based on the nature and direction of the vibrations, including vertical linear motion and rotary motion. These procedures ensure a comprehensive assessment of the packaging’s durability under realistic transportation conditions.
