Asbestos Survey and Consulting Services
ATS offers a variety of asbestos detection and consulting services. Asbestos refers to six heat-resistant mineral fibers found in rock and soil. Previously a staple of the shipbuilding and construction industries, asbestos is now heavily regulated but not banned at the federal level. If your commercial property is undergoing renovation or demolition, you may encounter asbestos.
Why Asbestos is Dangerous
When disturbed, asbestos can become airborne. Because asbestos is invisible to the naked eye, tasteless, and odorless, people who are not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) can inhale or ingest the fibers. Even worse, asbestos has a long latency period between intake and the first symptom, making it critical to detect asbestos as soon as possible.
Decades of research have linked short and long-term asbestos exposure to various conditions, including:
- COPD
- Pleuritis
- Pleural Effusions
- Pleural Plaques
- Diffuse Pleural Thickening
- Laryngeal Cancer
- Ovarian Cancer
- Lung cancer
- Mesothelioma
- Asbestosis
If you believe your building contains asbestos, do not endanger the health of your employees or risk litigation. Get an asbestos inspection now.
Asbestos Abatement
Asbestos abatement is the process of asbestos detection and repair or removal. You may choose asbestos removal when preparing to demolish or renovate a building or if the hazardous material is too damaged to repair. Due to the elevated risk involved in this complicated procedure, asbestos removal is more expensive than asbestos repair.
Do not try to dispose of asbestos on your own. Improper handling and disposal can spread asbestos throughout the building and harm your employees.
Our Asbestos Surveys
ATS employs experienced and educated professionals for asbestos abatement consulting. We will manage your asbestos detection and air monitoring during abatement, all under a single contract.
We start with a baseline survey of the site. An expert can perform a visual inspection, taking samples as needed and recording key asbestos information, such as:
- Location
- Condition
- Quantity
- Type
Our project designer uses this information to create customized abatement plans. Next, we develop an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) program for long-term safe practices and training for building occupants.
ATS can also help you find a licensed contractor to properly remove and dispose of the ACM. Our Resident Project Representative (RPR) can observe the contractor for compliance with project plans and local, state, or federal safety regulations.
After clearance, our representatives can monitor the air to determine the effectiveness of the contractor’s work. Additionally, our contract administration services support payment, scheduling, and service changes throughout the project.
Laws and Regulations
Our experts know the federal, state, and local laws and guidelines for the safe handling of asbestos-related material. We also follow applicable local and federal laws for friable and non-friable asbestos.
Federal guidelines include:
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1001 (Appendix E)
- OSHA 29 CFR 1929.1101
- EPA 40 CFR (Parts 9 & 721)
- EPA 40 CFR (Part 763, Subpart G)
