Applied Technical Services’ engineering department offers the expertise of our certified NACE Coating Inspectors. The NACE Coating Inspector program is highly recognized due to the extensive curriculum that prepares inspectors for fieldwork and various industries. We employ professionals who are talented and enthusiastic about the work they perform. NACE coating inspectors are responsible for performing and recording non-destructive inspections of non-liquid and liquid coatings. These coatings may be applied to metals or other surface materials.
Types of Inspections Provided By ATS
- Dry Film Thickness: This Inspection measures the applied coating of a surface. This test can be performed on coatings of a single layer or those with multiple layers. Before dry film thickness inspections can be performed, the coating has to be completely dry. The thickness of coatings is based on the surface preparation and how the coating is applied to the surface.
- Wet Film Thickness: Unlike Dry Film Thickness inspections, Wet Film Thickness inspections can be performed while coatings are still wet. This type of inspection provides an immediate result on the coating applied.
- Holiday Detection: This test method is nondestructive and is used to identify discontinuities in coatings. These discontinuities include voids and pinholes. During holiday testing, an electric circuit is created to determine if the current flow completes the circuit through the coating. This test is often used to find coating abnormalities that are not visually noticeable, including coating film breaks and air bubbles.
- Environmental Readings for Coating Application: Coating Applications can be subjected to environmental conditions to see how it will resist to changing environments.
- Surface Profile Measurement: During surface profile measurements, an abrasive blast cleaning or impact power tool is applied, while the maximum peak-to-valley depth is measured based on abrasive impingement.
