ASTM D5868 Testing
Applied Technical Services performs adhesive shear strength analysis on adhesively bonded plastics through tension loading in accordance with the ASTM D5868 testing standard.
ASTM D5868: Lap Shear Strength Testing of Adhesively Bonded Fiber Reinforced Plastics
ASTM D5868 (ASTM D5868-01 2014) is a standard set by ASTM International, or the American Society for Testing and Materials, that establishes the testing methods for lap shear strength testing adhesive bonds. ASTM D5868 specifically pertains to adhesively bonded fiber reinforced plastics, also known as FRP, against itself or metal materials. Testing in accordance with ASTM D5868 requires an experienced testing expert capable of performing with the highest level of precision. This testing method yields several types of data, including average, minimum, and maximum failure load values, failing stress in pounds of force per square inch (megapascals), and the type of failure. ASTM D5868 is similar to ASTM D3163, ISO 4587, and EN 1465, with ASTM D5868 specifically applying to fiber reinforced plastic materials.
