Applied Technical Services performs shear strength testing for plastic materials in accordance with the ASTM D732 testing standard.

ASTM D732: Plastic Shear Strength Testing

ASTM D732-17 is a testing standard set by ASTM International that establishes the testing methods for puncture/punch tool testing for plastic materials. ASTM D732 testing is used to determine the shear strength of sheet and molded disk plastic subjects ranging from approximately 0.05 inches to 0.5 inches in thickness. Subject materials should be 2 inches in length by 2 inches in width for ASTM D732 testing. The equipment used for this type of testing applies dynamic pressure to the subject at speeds ranging from 1 to 500 millimeters per minute, with the force of this testing method established in ASTM E4 or ISO 7500-1. This testing method provides insight on a plastic materialโ€™s ability to endure stress without cracking or becoming distorted in order to prevent potential material failure.
