ASTM E23 Charpy Impact Test
The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) conducts the ASTM E23 charpy impact test to determine the toughness and brittleness of materials.
What is ASTM E23?
ASTM International developed ASTM E23 as an outline for those conducting impact tests using the Izod and Charpy methods. In addition to measuring the brittleness of materials, ASTM E23 can also be used to examine how lower temperatures can increase the fragility of a material. The information gathered from the test method is important when deciding whether a material can handle the environment and stresses associated with its intended application.
About Our ASTM E23 Charpy Impact Testing Services
Our highly trained mechanical testing experts conduct tests that evaluate the strength and weakness of materials while ensuring their compliance with standards and regulations. During the ASTM E23 Charpy impact testing procedure, our technicians strike a bar-shaped specimen with a hammer that is attached to a pendulum. Technicians measure the force needed to break the specimen which provides important insight into the impact strength of metallic materials.
Why is Charpy Impact Testing Important?
Charpy impact tests are an effective way to observe how materials respond to various levels of impact at different temperatures. Manufacturers across numerous industries rely on Charpy impact tests to determine if their products meet quality and safety standards. Charpy tests offers numerous benefits, including:
- Simple procedure
- Measurements
- Reliable results
- Cost-effective
