Tensile Testing Metallurgical Laboratory
The tensile testing metallurgical laboratory at Applied Technical Services offers a wide variety of tensile testing capabilities. The lab houses state-of-the-art equipment and technology to provide our clients with expert testing. Our testing methods allow us to evaluate material characteristics which gives clients a better understanding of their sample. Common materials we test include:
- Metals
- Welds
- Rebar
- Polymers
- Pipes
- Fasteners
- Rubber
- Tubes
- Composites
Plastic Tensile Testing
Plastic tensile testing is one of many services offered through our tensile testing metallurgical laboratory. Plastic tensile tests evaluate a plastic’s elasticity before failure, therefore measuring the load required to break the sample. All plastic tensile tests are performed in accordance with ASTM D638, the American Society for Testing Materials’ standard for reinforced and nonreinforced plastic tensile testing. This test evaluates the following material properties:
- Elongation and percent elongation at break
- Elongation and percent elongation at yield
- Tensile modulus
- Tensile strength
- Tensile strain
High-Temperature Tensile Testing
Another common testing method provided by our tensile testing metallurgical laboratory is high-temperature tensile testing. This method combines furnace heating and tensile testing to evaluate material properties under the strain of elevated temperatures. High-temperature tensile testing is particularly pertinent in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and power generation. Equipment used in these industries must sustain elevated temperature conditions during service. Therefore, it is imperative that these components are able to withstand high temperatures without failing. Our technicians evaluate the material’s change in microstructure and plot the data on a stress-strain curve. This allows us to find material characteristics such as:
- Tensile strength
- Ultimate strength
- Yield point
- Elastic limit
- Yield strength
- Modulus of elasticity
- Elongation
- Area reduction
- Proportional limit
- Ductility
Committed to Quality
At Applied Technical Services, we dedicate ourselves to providing the highest quality of testing. In our efforts to do so, our tensile testing metallurgical laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025 (A2LA) in various disciplines such as chemical analysis, mechanical testing, nondestructive testing, and equipment calibration. Our corporate management program drives us to provide clients with unparalleled service by delivering accurate and meticulous reporting in a timely manner. ATS labs conduct all testing in accordance with applicable standards and codes. The customer service team will connect you with a qualified professional to help with client inquiries.
