The ATS Family of Companies’ ASTM UV exposure test capabilities serve clients from our ISO 17025:2017 accredited environmental labs. We perform this test under standard G154, which measures accelerated weathering. Our labs are accredited by the A2LA to perform UV testing under this standard to simulate sun exposure under UV light. When materials are directly hit by sunlight, they will degrade with time and can become damaged. Interior/exterior products such as exterior décor, fabrics, or car interiors are especially vulnerable to this. Other outcomes of UV exposure include:
- Peeling
- Cracking
- Oxidation
- De-Gloss
- Deterioration of materials such as glass
Our environmental labs allow us to adjust our fluorescent UV weathering chambers to the parameters set by ASTM UV exposure test standard G154. These parameters address the following:
- The fluorescent lamp
- The lamp’s irradiance level
- Type of moisture exposure
- Timing of the light and moisture exposure
- The temperature of the moisture exposure
- Timing of light/dark cycles
We will provide our clients with accurate reports to show a material’s durability under direct sunlight, using ultraviolet exposure to advance any effects more rapidly, allowing us to see months/years of damage in a short time. This helps manufacturers design products with more resistance to direct sunlight exposure. These tests cannot, however, perfectly replicate real-world weather conditions and are not directly comparable to actual weather patterns.
