The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) conducts cyclic fatigue tests on metallic stemmed hip arthroplasty femoral components in compliance with the ASTM F1612.

What is ASTM F1612?

The American Society for Testing and Materials established ASTM F1612 as a resource for experts determining the fatigue resistance of metallic stemmed femoral components used in hip arthroplasty. The standard is an effective way to compare how different manufacturing processes, materials, and designs impact an implant’s femoral components. During the testing process, technicians subject specimens to many cyclic loading cycles which simulate the stresses the implant would endure as the patient engages in regular activity such as walking.

About Our Medical Device Testing Laboratory

Our medical device testing experts use their decades of experience and our state-of-the-art facilities to support medical device manufacturers seeking to develop, evaluate, and improve their medical devices. Our services are designed to help address the challenges manufacturers face as they select materials, confirm designs, determine biocompatibility for various types of medical devices and surgical instruments. Our analytical methodologies help ensure that our clients’ products are compliant with regulatory requirements and safe and well-suited for their intended applications.

Our medical device tests consist of customizable testing options designed to meet the unique needs of our clients. We ensure that products have the functionality and durability needed to operate safely and effectively while improving the quality of life for the patients they’re intended to serve. We provide testing for numerous types of prosthetics, spinal implants, orthopedic devices, spinal implants, and dental implants. In addition to ASTM F1612, we offer other hip-related tests, such as:

The Importance of Cyclic Fatigue Testing

Cyclic fatigue tests are a valuable part of the development process for hip implants and their components. Hips are a very important part of the human body as they play crucial roles in one’s ability to withstand weight, remain balance, and maneuver with comfort and ease. Hip replacements and their components are tasked with replicated attributes and must do so over the course of two or more decades in many cases.
