The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) evaluates the deformation and endurance properties of tibial inserts in compliance with the ASTM F2777 testing standard.

What is ASTM F2777?

The American Society for Testing and Materials developed the ASTM F2777 standard as an outline for experts evaluating the endurance and deformation properties of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) tibial bearing components commonly used in knee replacements. This standard’s objective is to successfully simulate high-flexion motions, such as kneeling, providing insight into how the inserts will perform in real-world situations. During the procedure, technicians measure the component’s resistance to fatigue and deformation by subjecting it to repeated cyclic loads. The information gathered during the testing standard assists manufacturers as they compare how different component designs fare when examined under similar conditions.

More About Our ASTM-Compliant Medical Device Testing Services

In addition to our ASTM F2777 testing services, we offer services that comply with various other ASTM standards, including the following:

Why is It Important that Medical Devices Undergo Fatigue Tests?

Fatigue testing is essential as manufacturers develop their medical devices and verify their effectiveness and compliance with standards and regulations. Fatigue tests become especially important for implants designed for body parts that require significant mobility, such as the knee.  They’re an effective way for manufacturers to determine their product’s durability, enabling them to identify and resolve any potential design flaws that may limit their product’s effectiveness.
