The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) determines the effective elastic parameter for residual and applied stress XRD measurements in compliance with the ASTM E1426 standard.

What is ASTM E1426?

The American Society for Testing and Materials developed ASTM E1426 as a resource for determining a crystalline material’s X-ray elastic constants (XEC). The standard helps to ensure the repeatability and accuracy of applied and residual stress tests. During the testing procedure, technicians install the calibrated specimen into the loading fixture and place the fixture into the XRD machine.  Technicians then subject the specimen to increasing stress levels. The XRD machine measures the specimen’s change in interplanar distances at each stress level. Next, technicians apply stresses in decreasing order, allowing them to confirm that there aren’t any deviations in accuracy. The information gathered from the test procedure can be used to help provide the information needed to obtain accurate residual stress measurements.

About Our ASTM-Compliant Testing Capabilities

The ATS FoC’s ASTM-compliant testing lab conducts ASTM E1426-compliant tests with accuracy and precision. Our staff comprises highly trained technicians who utilize their years of collective experience and our cutting-edge testing technologies to deliver professional and prompt services to our customers.  Our A2LA-accredited lab is properly maintained, ensuring that our equipment is calibrated and yielding reliable and repeatable results. In addition to our ASTM E1426 tests, we also offer testing compliant with the ASTM E915 standard, which also measures residual stress for XRD applications.

Why Are ASTM Tests Important?

ASTM standards help ensure the quality, safety, and performance of products and materials used worldwide. Third-party labs, such as ATS, offer ASTM-compliant testing services that support businesses by testing specimens in accordance with the guidelines outlined in ASTM standards. This enables businesses to receive testing services from a trusted and impartial testing provider that has both the expertise and equipment needed to conduct comprehensive testing.
