Applied Technical Services offers compressive strength testing commonly referred to compression strength testing. This test gradually applies compression load on a specimen until it fractures or reduces in size. To determine if a material or component is suitable for a specific application, manufacturers often need to measure its resistance to strain, stress, and deformation. ATS can perform this test on a variety of materials which are placed between two plates with opposing forces directed at each other causing compression. Our compression force range offered in our plastic/polymer lab is 0.22 lbf – 10,000 lbf. Many times, clients may need to test compression properties within certain environmental conditions. Our lab has the capability to conduct compressive strength testing on samples exposed to high and low temperature (-100°C to 350°C)

ATS ISO Certified Labs
ATS’ quality assurance program meets some of the most stringent industry requirements. Our labs hold multiple ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditations and certifications. Our experienced experts are familiar with most industry standards and regulations as it relates to compressive strength testing. In a timely manner, our technicians provide clear and accurate data in detailed reports.
ASTM D695 – The Most Common Standard for Compressive Strength Testing
ASTM D695 – Standard Test Method for Compressive Properties of Rigid Plastics is one of the most common standard requested for compressive strength testing. This standard was created to verify your process and product stability. Our applications will assist in determining your specimen’s modulus of elasticity, yield strength, offset yield strength, and compressive strength. Other related test methods include ASTM D638 – Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Plastics and ASTM D790- Standard Test Methods for Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials.
We adhere to many other applicable testing standards:
- Compression Testing of Rubber – ASTM D575
- Compression Testing for Polymer Matrix Composites Laminates – ASTM D6641
- Wood Adhesive Bonds in Shear by Compression Loading – ASTM D905
- Flexible Cellular Polymeric Materials Compression EN – ISO 1856
- Plastics – Determination of Compressive Properties– ISO 604
- Compressive Strength of Rigid Cellular Plastics – ISO 844
