ASTM D3163: Determining the Strength of Adhesively Bonded Plastic Joints
ASTM D3163 (ASTM D3163-01 2014) is a standard set by the American Society for Testing and Materials, or ASTM International, that establishes the testing methods and procedures for plastic lap-shear joint strength determination through tension loading. This standard test method specifically applies to materials below the softening point of the subject material and cannot be used on materials such as reinforced plastic laminates. This testing method requires the highest levels of precision and accuracy and has specific criteria for various types of plastic materials and joints. ASTM D3163 is comparable to EN 1465 and ISO 4587, with ASTM D3163 strictly applying to rigid plastics bonded by adhesives.
