Scale and Balance Errors
Every scale and balance is subject to calibration errors. Without a proper inspection, these errors can go undetected. Even minor differences in altitude and latitude can pose a risk to these products’ precision. It is crucial to repair scales and balances to ensure accuracy when these errors occur.
Types of Calibration Testing

The ATS Family of Companies employs several mass calibration methods as appropriate, including weight sets, weight kits, and test weights. We complete our calibration testing services in a lab with around-the-clock humidity and temperature control to ensure the stabilization of weights and other instruments. If in-house services are not an option for your company, our technicians perform on-site services in fully equipped service trucks.

Any scale or balance used for commercial purposes must undergo additional calibration. Scale technicians predominantly use the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM) calibration standards to verify the equipment’s performance. On top of that, manufacturers must meet other calibration standards specific to their industry.

Preventative Maintenance Agreement

The Family of Companies’ preventive maintenance and calibration services make it easy to comply with quality audits. We issue certificates tracing the standards back to NIST, and our calibration services comply with ANSI Z540. Furthermore, our lab offers ISO 17025 accredited calibration services—a level of quality that some standards and regulatory bodies require. Our preventive maintenance agreements could include educating employees on certain areas of expertise, such as testing scales for accuracy, furnishing test weights, recommending procedure adjustments to comply with NIST standards, and providing written documentation on the conditions found and the corrections made.

Quality Assurance

The ATS Family of Companies possesses company accreditations and certified technicians that speak to our company’s level of standards. We are ISO 17025 accredited to perform mass calibration lab services, and our calibration specialists are Certified Weight Technicians (CWT). They obtain this certification through the International Society of Weights and Measures (ISWM) after formal training on the NIST H44 documentary standards.

Our weight standards are traceable to the NIST (National Institute of Standards Technology), and our lab is certified in numerous mass calibration tests, ranging from small lab balances to large truck scales.
