The Importance of Color Accuracy

Color accuracy is critical to several different industries, including graphic design, media, packaging, photography, manufacturing, building materials, printing, apparel, and automotive. The color accuracy of spectrophotometers, monitors, displays, projectors, printers, chart readers, and scanners can vary greatly, leading to potential discrepancies between initial creations and finished products. X-Rite manufactures spectrophotometers for several different applications, ranging from physical media color calibration to electronic color calibration. Spectrophotometers come in both handheld and benchtop variations, both of which require calibration.

Spectrophotometer Calibration
Much like other measurement devices, spectrophotometers require calibration to verify their accuracy. Measurement devices tend to drift over time, leading to inconsistencies ranging from mild to severe. X-Rite calibration (and other comparable spectrophotometer calibration) consists of taking a spectrophotometer’s measurement and comparing it to a standard. If there is any variance, the spectrophotometer is then adjusted to return it to accuracy. X-Rite manufacturers several different devices, including:
