Vortex Flow Meter Calibration

The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (FoC) conducts vortex flow meter calibration to verify the accuracy of vortex flow meters.

What is Vortex Flow Meter and the Vortex Shedding Principle?
A vortex flow meter is a volumetric flow meter that measures the flow rate of fluids using the vortex shedding principle. The principle states that fluids create an oscillating flow when the liquid flows past a bluff body. Vortex flow meters consist of a sensor, transmitter, and a bluff body, a small obstruction stationed in the fluid’s flow path. The sensor detects the vortex shedding, generating an electrical signal that the transmitter converts into a flow rate measurement.
The Advantages of Vortex Flow Meters
Vortex flow meters offer great versatility for liquid, gas, and steam applications. Their non-intrusive and durable design makes them easy to install and effective in various environments. Their ability to accurately measure high and low flow rates ensures reliable performance across varying conditions.
Why is it Important to Calibrate Vortex Flow Meters?
Our calibration services ensure that vortex flow meters produce accurate readings. Accurate flow measurements are essential to the optimization of an operation. However, if the flow meter is not calibrated, it could lead to underproduction or overproduction, which can be costly and lead to efficient processes. Calibrated vortex flow meters also help reduce the safety risks associated with many hazardous gases and materials that flow through industrial facilities. The calibration frequency depends on the application, but vortex flow meters should be calibrated annually to ensure accuracy. Vortex flow meter calibrations help to do the following:
