ASTM C1202, or the Rapid Chloride Permeability Test (RCPT), measures the ease with which chloride ions pass through concrete. A saturated disk specimen, typically 100 mm in diameter and 50 mm thick, is sealed at the edge to direct current through its faces. The specimen is placed between two reservoirs, one containing a chloride solution and the other an alkaline solution, and a constant DC voltage is applied. Current is recorded over six hours to calculate the total charge passed in coulombs. ASTM C1202 results help construction teams and contractors:
