Applied Technical Services (ATS) applies ASTM D950 to measure the impact strength of adhesive bonds. This testing method enables manufacturers to choose durable adhesives that can maintain performance under sudden shock or impact loads.
What is ASTM D950 Used For?
We use ASTM D950 to compare adhesive systems, guide material selection, assess product durability, and confirm performance in applications where shock loading is critical.
ASTM D950 is commonly applied to adhesive materials used in:
- Structural adhesive joints
- Construction and building materials
- Bonded metal components
- Bonded wood assemblies
- Automotive bodies
- Bonded aerospace structures
- Industrial equipment
- Machinery components
- Electronics manufacturing
How is Impact Resistance Measured in Adhesive Bonds?
ASTM D950 measures the impact resistance of adhesive bonds by determining the energy absorbed by a bonded joint before failure under sudden impact. Using a pendulum impact tester, the method evaluates adhesive durability in environments prone to shock, drops, or collisions.
ASTM D950 data is typically expressed as the energy absorbed at failure per unit bonded area, in units of J/m² (joules per square meter).
Setting the Standard with ATS
Our advanced materials testing lab is an A2LA-accredited to perform adhesive bond impact testing in accordance with ASTM D590. To ensure technical excellence and quality assurance, our growing network of laboratories holds multiple ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditations and operates under an ISO 9001:2015-registered quality management system.
Our goal is to deliver precise, accurate data with quick turnaround times to help our clients to make informed decisions about the performance of adhesive materials. Since partnering with SGS in 2026, ATS has expanded our capabilities by combining local expertise with global resources. We remain committed to delivering safe, reliable solutions for clients worldwide.
