The Applied Technical Services Family of Companies (ATS FoC) determines concrete compressive strength in accordance with ASTM C39, promoting construction resilience and safety.

ASTM C39 testing evaluates the compressive strength of concrete by subjecting cured concrete cylinders or drilling cores from existing concrete to increasing compressive loads until failure occurs. The resulting strength is calculated by dividing the maximum load sustained by the specimen at failure by its cross-sectional area.

What Does ASTM C39 Measure?

ASTM C39 measures the compressive strength of concrete cylinders.

Compressive strength in concrete depends on factors such as mixing, curing conditions, size, shape, composition, and aggregate structure. Improper material selection, design, or curing can reduce the concrete’s ability to withstand heavy loads. ASTM C39 testing evaluates the concrete’s capacity to resist fracturing, buckling, or rupturing under load.

Why is Compressive Strength Testing Important for Concrete?

Cylindrical concrete samples are vital to the structural integrity of construction projects. Variations in concrete properties can compromise strength and lead to failure under load. ASTM C39 compressive testing verifies the material’s ability to withstand substantial forces, supporting project longevity and performance.

Partnering with an experienced testing laboratory like ATS verifies that your concrete meets required safety and performance standards.
