ASTM Thermometer Calibration

Applied Technical Services calibrates temperature meters according to ASTM thermometer calibration standards. From monitoring the temperature of a vehicle’s engine to meteorologic weather forecasts to quality control during manufacturing, accurate temperature measurements are essential to daily business activity.

All thermometers require calibration, from non-contact infrared (IR) guns to immersive liquid-in-glass thermometers and anything in between. If a thermometer has fallen out of tolerance, it will provide incorrect data that may jeopardize production, safety, and resources. Clients should schedule periodic calibrations to catch drift early and mitigate risks.

Our experts’ familiarity with tried and true calibration procedures helps them reach a 7 to 10-day standard turnaround rate from when your device arrives at the lab to when we ship it back to you.

Our calibration experts begin by inspecting the thermometer for damage. The rigorous operating environment of industrial thermometers can repeatedly expose devices to moisture, vibration, shock, electrical interference, and contamination that degrade the tool’s accuracy and performance. If the thermometer is in good condition, our expert prepares it for the procedure.

Calibrations with ASTM and Custom Procedures

Clients may select from several calibration procedures, including comparison with NIST-traceable Platinum Resistance Thermometers (PRTs), thermocouples, temperature baths, block calibrators, ice point references, and ITS-90 fixed-point cells. Our combined calibration equipment can reach the following ranges:

  • Temperatures: -196 to 1,200°C
  • Relative humidity: 10 to 95% RH
  • Infrared (IR): -30 to 500 °C

We can follow the test points outlined in the ASTM procedure or the measurements requested by the client. If the readings are out of tolerance, an expert will make the necessary adjustments to ensure future measurements conform to OEM and client specifications.

ATS documents all calibrated equipment’s conditions in a professional certificate of calibration traceable to NIST and ASTM specifications. Our experts perform calibrations in accordance with ASME NQA-1, ANSI/NCSL Z540-1, 10 CFR 50 – Appendix B, 10 CFR Part 21, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Clients can download and print certificates of calibration from our secure web platform, iPortal.
